Prayer
/Matthew 26:41 "Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."
You know we do a lot of blogging, thinking, talking, reading, loving, accepting, helping, meeting, talking, brainstorming, myspacing, facebooking, fellowshipping, cigar smoking, beer drinking, innovating, vision casting, questioning, theorizing, pondering, discussing, tv watching, movie watching, and talking; but something occurred to me this morning while praying… we should be praying more! Not that praying gives us brownie points with God or anything! It's not about that! For some of you that may be your context for why you pray... you feel shamed or condemned to pray. But we should pray BECAUSE we love God, not to get God to love us!
I do not feel obligated, or shamed or manipulated to have meaningful conversations with my wife. I WANT to have meaningful conversations with my wife BECAUSE I love her!
I feel that prayer is a part of a meaningful relationship and an expression of love.
Maybe you pray everyday, as we all should, but if you are like me then you get busy DOING... rather than praying? So maybe this blog is just for me and I just needed to confess?
I am reminded how often we speak of DOING WHAT JESUS DID… (it just rolls off the tongue) and the reality is Jesus did a lot of praying! I think we should follow Jesus here.
Here is a quote I have either made up or have quoted so long that I think I made it up… “When we work, we work, when we pray, God works”
